Hard Working Artists is a series of performative situations developed during a residency on the Croatian island of Hvar. The project reflects on the tension between labor, leisure, and artistic identity within a tourist landscape often defined by relaxation and slow rhythms of life. In collaboration with Kalin Mihov, we attempted to participate in traditional forms of manual labor, such as vineyard work or building stone walls. However, these attempts repeatedly turned into what we called “pillow work,” a state in which the desire to work exists but the conditions for meaningful labor remain out of reach. The project humorously reflects on productivity, hospitality, and the role of artists within unfamiliar communities.
